Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Hopefully the remnants of hurricane Isaac are gone so we can get this game in and have the Cards suffer the wrath of hurricane Isaac Davis instead. It's the first game of three for the Mets who are coming off having won three straight series [2 of 3 v Houston; 2 of 3 v Philly; sweep of Miami] since that disaster of a four-game sweep against Colorado - and my IGTs are on a roll here.2:15 EDT - McHugh vs Kelly (sounds like a prize fight from about 70 years ago)- McHugh had a meh and shortened [4.2 IP] start for Buffalo since his rather stunning ML debut 11 days ago against the Rox [7 IP, 0 Runs, 2 Hits, 9 Ks]. He figures to have a tougher time against the harder hitting Cardinals.- Joseph William Kelly is also a rookie: 6' 1"/185; R/R; 24 y/o, a 3rd round pick by the Cards out of UC-Riverside in 2009, will be making his 16th appearance and 14th start in the big leagues. 4-6; 3.61 ERA; 1.47 WHiP -- he's coming off a rough outing vs the Pirates where he got hit for 5 earned on 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings and took the loss. Has never faced the Mets and may not even be able to spell Mets for all we know. Also, every time I hear the name 'Kelly' I hear it in the late actor Robert Shaw's voice, or rather in the Irish brogue that Shaw used in 'The Sting' for his character of Doyle Lonnegan as Lonnegan spoke to the Robert Redford character that was posing as a guy named Kelly. "Where ya from Kelly?"
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Murphy breaks up the no-hitter with 1 out in the first.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 and the United State's first supreme court justice does the same in the bottom of the first with a double Duda'd into a triple .
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Looked more like an out Duda'd into a triple.

But if the idea is for Duda to be a slow but capable outfielder, he's gotta learn when his legs won't get him there. He's gotta learn to play the position, not learn to be faster.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Can we talk about Strasberg some more? Come on!Middle of the sixth, Mets down 4-0.

Bay probably would have had that. Duda had no chance. He should have gone on an angle back to the corner instead of that zippity duda thing he did there.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 AAAAAAAAAAAAAchoooooooo!Another blow from Ho-Jo's nose! Bless you.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 ShopVac gets us back into the game.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Triboom! from Torres. 2 runs are nice but not enough. MORE RUNS YOU BUMS!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Very handsome rally. Two innings to get two more back. Big stuff here.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Six straight scoreless --- if brief --- appearances from Carson.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 And it won't be seven. BoooOOOooo!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Not a scoreless outing for Carson anymore. And yet another poor OF throw negates the possibility of an out.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Oh, yeah, I certainly wasn't counting that outing. Just rooting. In futility, at that moment. But tying run on deck at the top of the order. Grind it out, Mets.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 [bigpurple:2cdasa4g]Fuck yeah Murphy![/bigpurple:2cdasa4g]Two innings to get at least one more. COME ON, SHaMS!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Now t'would be nice if Dabid chooses this AB to NOT ground out to SS the way he's seemingly done for most of his last 3 dozen ABs
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 MurphBOOM!If we'd stop giving runs back it'd be tied.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 We're not quite in Thole territory where I consider hard ground-outs to be a sign of improvement ... but it's getting there.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Davis walks. Can't really pinch-run for him with Cedeo, because he might come up in the ninth, I guess.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Gets to second on that hit, but he's riding the local.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Let's go, Mets!Let's go, Mets!Let's go, Mets!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Oh, froof.Anybuttz, Torres, Thole or Cedeo, and Tejada in the ninth.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Those pinch-hitters look to have improved our outfield defense as well. One out, runner on second after a walk and a sacreefice. Lefty Descalso facing Edgin.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 It's outings like today which pretty much absolve Terry of the charge of not throwing away his reliever roles and instead leaning on Parnell as his go-to guy in tough spots.Bobby's as likely to have off days as any of the other culprits.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 A 3-2 count and whoosh! Strikeout.Do you go after Robinson the righty or Jay, who's better but lefthanded?
